Cape Fear River Crossing, North Carolina

Pickett’s objective was to increase the vertical clearance provided by the double circuit 230kV transmission line crossing over the Cape Fear River shipping channel at the request of the North Carolina Ports Authority to enable larger vessels to call the Port of Wilmington. The successful on-time completion was a necessity for the region and was mandated by the state legislature.

Pickett evaluated potential options to support the stakeholders in determining the most appropriate solution while considering safety, constructibility, permitting constraints, cost, schedule, etc.

Pickett assessed potential solutions including structural analysis and design; structural and foundation analysis; new structure design; condition assessments and construction support. Services required preparation of PLS-CADD design and construction package, conceptual lattice tower modeling, review of final lattice tower Corbett Sugar Quarry, Florida design and shop drawings, design and construction support, preparation of supporting permit drawings, foundation analysis utilizing Ensoft GROUP and BOMs.
