Asheville Plant 115kV and 230kV Transmission Support, North Carolina

Pickett’s objective was to design three new transmission tie lines and the relocation and rebuild of six existing transmission lines in support of the client’s decommissioning of the existing Asheville coal-fired generation plant and replacement with a new combined cycle power plant.

The project included the design of 37 drilled shaft foundations and engineered steel structures.

The project considered the following challenges: short clearance windows, several projects running in parallel in limited space and shallow rock. Services provided as part of this assignment included PLS-CADD modeling, structural analysis, load tree development, foundation design, and structure drawing development.
